Mountain Construction

The construction of Combat mountain!

This mountain was constructed from 1/2 insulating foam.

The sides and top were formed and train clearance was checked prior to applying the plaster wrap cloth.

The Woodland Scenics plaster wrap cloth was used to form the shell of the mountain, using dampened newspaper to form the desired rock shape.

The plaster wrap dried and hardened in a few days.  An outer coat of a mix of  wallboard joint compound and  interior latex wall paint with a slight brown/tan shade.   Approximately a 40(compound)/60(paint) mix or thin enough to paint on.  This coating covered the holes in the plaster wrap cloth and added strength to the mountain.

Once this dried in a day or so, using a dry brush and some different shades of earth colors mixed on a palate, the mountain shading was applied.

Then in the valleys,  the Woodland scenic grasses were applied.

Woodland Scenics foliage along with some K-line soldiers and little jeeps give the final touches.

The Marine chopper found its way in for the display on Sunday.
